In Memory of Monsieur Gérard Joseph

For many decades, Monsieur Gérard Joseph supported foreign HAS workers with his interpreting skills to communicate well with patients and hospital staff. He not only translated from French or English into Creole and vice versa, but also mediated interculturally with great sensitivity, so that true understanding between the "Blancs" and Haitians, e.g. from the mountains of the Artibonite Valley, could be achieved.
Thanks to Gérald, we learned a lot of background information about the life of the Haitians, their daily hardships (food, school fees...) and their culture and customs (e.g. Voodoo). He also pointed out to us which individuals were in need of a food coupon or support from the social service. Our friend Gérard was always reliable, very helpful, friendly and humble.
Monsieur Gérard passed away at the end of April 2022 at the age of 68 as a result of his chronic heart failure.
At this point we would like to tell you: MÈSI ANPIL ZANMI! NOU AP SONJE OU!
